Mistakes When Treating Acne

By BecomeGorgeous.com / Skin Care / Acne and Skin Problems / Mistakes When Treating Acne

Acne can be one of the most upsetting skin conditions, particularly from a social point of view. A true confidence breaker for some, acne appears to be a type of condition most people can’t wait to get rid of. Unsurprisingly, most of us immediately start searching for the treatments that will help us restore the health of our skin. However, in an effort to solve this problem, we often make a series of mistakes unintentionally. Learn what not to do when treating acne to be able to get better results faster.

With the multitude of acne related advice coming from various sources, it can be really hard to distinguish between tidbits of truth, subjective advice and even myths. As a result, we often don’t realize why we don’t get the results we want. The truth is that there are several reasons that might cause setbacks or even stop us from solving our problems altogether. Here are a few things you should not do when treating acne:

Not using medication properly
Consulting a dermatologist is an excellent idea, especially when dealing with more severe cases of acne. However, even if the treatment is an effective one, there are still a few things that can diminish its efficiency. Forgetting to take medication once in a while, taking lower/higher dosages or stopping the treatment as soon as your skin appears to be clear are some of the most common mistakes that can be made. Even if you do notice certain improvements, you should never make changes in your behavior without checking with your dermatologist first.

Over-washing your face
With so many cosmetic companies promoting facial cleansers that are said to reduce acne, it’s no wonder that many people are trying to wash their face more often, hoping they will clear their acne faster this way. However, acne is not caused by dirt, so over washing will not help improve things in any way. On the contrary: over-washing, especially if a harsh cleanser is used, will only irritate the skin and cause additional unnecessary problems.

Using too many products
Going overboard as far as skin care products are concerned is not an uncommon practice. However, “the more the better” mantra often backfires and it can be hard to retrace our steps and repair our mistakes. Learning more about common interactions between ingredients can be very helpful as it can help you make better choices. Doing research on your own or, better yet, bringing your skin care products to the dermatologist and asking about possible interactions might be a wise idea.

Not checking the ingredient list
It is a fairly known fact that products labeled as non-comedogenic are considered best for acne problems. However, some products might not be labeled as such. Sunscreen is a good example. Oil-free formulas are a good choice, however, you might also benefit from choosing sunscreens that have avobenzone and oxybenzone on the ingredient list. Also, if you have acne and dry skin, you should avoid lotions containing alcohol, in addition to selecting oil-free products.

Tanning, picking the skin or popping zits
These behaviors might be no-nos, yet many simply cannot resist. Using spot treatments is a much better solution than popping pimples or picking the skin as you will avoid the spread of bacteria while speeding up healing. As for tanning, it is a well known fact that although acne is less visible on tanned skin, in the long run, this behavior will not do you any favors. If you are using acne prescription medication, your skin might be more sensitive to skin rays than usual, so an adequate protection is an absolute must.

Makeup can truly be a girl’s best friend, with the condition it is properly applied, as makeup is after all an art. You can’t just throw on your makeup and look amazing, it has to be applied in a certain way, and this is not easy. Improper makeup application leads to beauty mistakes which you definitely have to avoid, therefore, try to learn how to apply your makeup so you can always look dazzling.

Makeup is supposed to help you achieve a natural look, as natural beauty does not have a match. To help you avoid looking unnatural, we have put together some of the most common beauty mistakes you should try to avoid, so pay attention to details and you’ll look perfect.

White neck
One of the most common beauty mistakes women make when applying foundation is to apply it only on their face. However, unless you’re wearing a turtleneck, your neck will show off colored differently and the white neck is not sexy. Apply foundation on your cleavage also, to ensure you buff it on well.

Wrong foundation color
Choosing the wrong foundation is yet another common beauty mistake which should be avoided, as foundation is supposed to blend beautifully with your skin. Best is to purchase a lighter foundation for winter, and a darker one for the summer. When transitioning to a new season, blend them to create the shade that matches your current skin tone.
When purchasing foundation, test the color along your jawline or forehead and make sure the foundation is not visible after blending it onto the skin. The role of foundation is to even out skin, not cover it up as a mask. If your foundation is highly visible on your skin, it’s not the right shade or texture for your skin type.

Fragrance layering
Everyone loves to smell good, but too much fragrance or mixing different scents can lead to a disastrous, pungent scent that can be quite annoying for the people surrounding you. One mistake women usually make is applying more than one fragrance at a time. Stick to one fragrance at a time, as most fragrances don’t create a fortunate mix when combined with other scents. If you wish your fragrance to last longer, use the additional products from the same range such as the shower gel and body lotion.

Not taking eye shape into account
Makeup defines, enhances and attracts towards the facial features of your choice. The myriad of eye makeup styles and techniques of application allow women to accentuate the exact details their eye shape requires, as there are several eye shapes which require different makeup tricks to bring out that divine look everyone loves.
Learn how to apply eye makeup for your eye shape, and you’ll definitely look amazing regardless of the occasion.

Not exfoliating the skin
Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells and traces of makeup that might make your skin look dull and lifeless. Exfoliate your skin once a week and nourish it using a moisturizer to enhance skin cell regeneration and soft, smooth skin.

Fashion Mistakes that Can Ruin your Look

Whether we like it or not the truth is that we are being judged mainly based on our appearance, at least the first time we meet somebody. Fashion mistakes can be pretty damaging when it comes to social life so make sure to avoid some of the following beauty blunders.

Fashion mistakes are often made even without realizing. Whether we are talking about hairstyle, makeup or fashion any minor slip-up can have a devastating effect over your look. Being overly eager to sport various fashion trends or on the contrary, not updating your style enough can often result in embarrassing faux pas.

Perhaps some of the most common mistakes that can be made is wearing too many trends in a single outfit. Although it might seem like the fastest way to stay on top of the trends, the clashes between styles can often lead to eye-catching results yet in a negative, unflattering way. Similarly adopting a trend that does not reflect our personality can make us look less confident and comfortable, therefore less attractive. Here are a series of additional style mistakes that could negatively impact you:

Not adapting your style as you age. Although certain fashion choices have an undoubtedly timeless manner as we age our style be altered in order to compliment us. Failing to spot the changes and adjustments that need to be created can often make you look older. Moreover this mistake can be relatively hard to spot since we are so used our own style we find it hard to change it.

Looking for style updates ideas in fashion magazines or taking style notes by observing someone whose style you admire are just two of the ways in which you can correct this mistake. If you are thinking about a style makeover don’t forget to experiment with a new makeup style and getting a new hairstyle as well.

Building your outfits around a single color. A strategy of this sort can often be the result of overestimating a few basic pieces in your wardrobe. Although a certain hue that matches your skin tone can be an excellent choice , when worn excessively it can make you look dull, especially if it is not accessorized adequately. Avoid falling in the trap of thinking that certain colors don’t work after a certain age. Most of the time is just a matter of choosing the right hues.

Bad fit. Purchasing clothes that will fit if you lose a couple of pounds or clothes that are not your size thinking they can hide problematic areas is a more common mistake than we would like to admit. Clothes that fit you are undoubtedly the best choice especially if they emphasize your curves in a subtle yet noticeable manner.

Denim on denim. Although jeans might be a basic wardrobe staple, a denim outfit is certainly not the best choice as it can make you look overly casual being rarely flattering for anyone. Moreover this type of outfit is almost impossible to accessorize being rather dull. Combining different textures is not that difficult yet the results can be truly impressive.

Frequent Hair Care Mistakes

Frequent Hair Care Mistakes

There are so many noxious elements that affect our hair. From stress and different external factors to our daily beauty and hair care routine, the hair has to constantly face aggressions. In this context, our main duty is to find the proper ways to keep it healthy. However, unconsciously or not, we often find ourselves making the exact opposite of what we should do. Take a look to some of the most frequent hair care mistakes and try to avoid them.

When it comes to the most frequent hair care mistakes, everything starts with the fact that most of us don’t know our hair type. This is the starting point for numerous hair disasters. There are, for example, many women who believe that they have coarse hair, when in fact their hair is fine but thick. Therefore, they start using the wrong products that can give an oily aspect to their hair.

This type of mistakes are made pretty often because women rarely ask the hairdresser questions about the hair. In order to avoid damaging your hair, you first need to know what is your hair type. It is not important, but crucial.

  • Even though there is this idea that using the blow-dryer can seriously harm your hair, in fact, some dermatologists say that it is rather beneficial for its health and beauty. Because the scalp remains damp for a longer period of time after shampooing, bacterias might develop and therefore follicles or pimples. However, the mistake we usually make is to dry the hair at a very high temperature especially when it is still damp as we only cause damage and hair becomes brittle.

  • It is not necessary to wash your hair every day. There are women who exaggerate when it comes to shampooing. Still, they have to be extremely careful as washing their hair too often might destroy the balance of the scalp and sebaceous glands causing dry or oily hair. The best thing to do is to wash your hair once or twice a week, unless you go to the gym or other different activities that require frequent shampooings. Don’t forget that the more often you wash it, the quicker it gets oily. If you are a too exigent type, you can rinse your hair with mineral or filtered water as the tap water might dry your hair.
  • You should know that all the remains in the cosmetic products you leave on your hair have a negative effect upon it. Therefore, it is very important to perfectly rinse your hair when washing it in order to remove any residue of conditioner, shampoo or mask. The silicone that is found in the majority of shampoos and other products tend to make your hair heavier. Make sure you use tepid water when rinsing instead of hot water that excessively dries the hair.

  • Rubbing our hair with the towel after washing is probably one of the most common mistakes we make. However, keep in mind to never do this as this type of treatment is very aggressive on damp and sensitive wet hair that loses aminoacids and tends to break easier. The best thing you can do is to keep it wrapped in the towel for 15-20 minutes and only after start to blow dry it.

  • The frequent use of the hair straightener affects the quality of the hair due to the repeated action of the heat on the hair that finally gets to deteriorate. You should give up to the hair straightener and find other solutions for diminishing volume, such as a different haircut. Moreover, choose ceramics straighteners and make sure your hair is perfectly dry before starting the straightening process. Besides the overuse of the hair straightener, some of us also apply too many styling products. Still, if using too much hair gel, wax and spray, your hair will not only lack style, but this might cause the appearance of unwanted dandruff. In both cases moderation is the key!
  • Hairstyle trends change every season. Among so many beautiful hairstyles, we always fall in love with one or two. However, the mistake we make is that we sometimes choose a hairstyle we like without taking into consideration that we have to maintain it. As we don’t have all a personal stylist and enough time to style our hair, a wiser decision would be to go for hairstyles that require low maintenance and are easy to style at home with minimum amount of effort. It is useless to pick a trendy haircut that doesn’t flatter your face shape or doesn’t suit your hair type.

  • It is well known the fact that every type of hair is susceptible to breakage, fall and split ends. Since the aspect of your hair is more than important, you should remember to pay a visit to the hairdresser every six weeks or 45 days for trimming. Moreover, you can also ask for a nourishing and regenerating treatment.
