Unlike the Macintosh, waterproof fabric gabardine is woven byhigh quality Pima cotton from Egypt. The fabric is handled to create waterproof ability before being woven.
In 1911, Captain Roald Amundsen, the first man to reach the Antarctic used a hut made by Burberry gabardine fabric. And amazingly this one defended him against the snow and wind storms. Both captain Sir John Alcock and Sir Arthur Whitten Brown wore Burberry in the first non-stop flight across the Atlantic in 1919.
